The Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has submitted a draft Environmental Code for public discussion. The document aims to improve environmental legislation and ensure the implementation of strategic planning documents, including the State Environmental Program for 2023–2028 and the National Development Strategy to 2030, according to the Committee's press service.
The draft Environmental Code consists of two parts—general and specific—and includes 40 chapters and 570 articles. It covers key aspects of environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources, and comprehensively regulates legal relations arising in this area.
The document was developed by industry experts and experienced lawyers, taking into account current legislation, an analysis of national regulations, the international experience of leading countries, and the practices of authorized bodies in Tajikistan. The Code is a codifying legal act that ensures a unified approach to environmental protection, the rational use of resources, and the monitoring of compliance with environmental standards.
The draft Environmental Code has been submitted for review and discussion to a wide range of government agencies, international organizations, public associations, the scientific community, legal entities, and individuals. All interested parties may submit their proposals and comments to the Environmental Protection Committee by December 20, 2025.
