On the night of Tuesday, October 7, Russian armed forces attacked Kharkiv and the Poltava region using attack drones, according to Ukrainian authorities and local media. The attacks sparked several fires in Kharkiv, and air raid sirens were repeatedly issued in several areas of the Poltava region.
Attack on Kharkov
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, citing the local situation center, reported that the city was struck by 25 Shahed drones. All strikes occurred in the Nemyshlyansky district, home to several industrial enterprises, including the Turboatom plant, which produces steam turbines for power plants, and the Etalon company, which specializes in reinforced concrete products for road and utility construction.
The attack lasted approximately 20 minutes. During this time, approximately two dozen explosions were reportedly heard and several fires broke out. A video of the massive fire, captured by an eyewitness, was published by Politika Strany on Telegram.
There are currently no reports of casualties. Units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) and emergency medical teams are working in an enhanced mode, reported Oleg Sinegubov, Chairman of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.
Attack on Poltava region
According to the local situation center, drones were simultaneously heading toward Poltava from the north and south. The head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Kogut, repeatedly reported air raid alerts in Poltava, Myrhorod, Kremenchuk, Lubensky, and other districts of the region.
According to the Russian Telegram channel "Obsessed with War," approximately 30 drones were deployed to Poltava. The Ukrainian side has not disclosed the exact number of drones involved in the attack.
General data on drone attacks
Earlier, on the night of October 6, Russia attacked Ukraine with 116 unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed, Gerber, and other types of drones. The launches were carried out from Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Gvardeyskoye in annexed Crimea.
Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down 83 drones in the north, south, east, and center of the country. Thirty attack drones were hit in seven locations. The attack continues, and several enemy UAVs remain in the airspace.
