The next meeting of the Moscow Format consultations on Afghanistan will take place in Moscow on Tuesday, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
Consultations will be held at the level of special representatives and senior officials from Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. A delegation from Belarus has been invited as a guest.
The Russian Foreign Minister will open the meeting. The event will be held behind closed doors. As Zakharova noted, priority attention will be given to promoting Afghan national reconciliation and expanding practical cooperation between regional states and Kabul in the political, economic, counter-terrorism, and counter-narcotics spheres. Following the meeting, a joint statement is planned to be adopted.
Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi will lead the Afghan side at the consultations. During the event, he will hold a separate bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during which the two sides will discuss current issues of bilateral cooperation.
"The meeting will serve as a platform for exchanging views on key issues related to ensuring stability and security in Afghanistan and the region as a whole," the Russian Foreign Ministry representative emphasized.
The Moscow consultation format was created to coordinate the efforts of countries in the region on issues of political settlement in Afghanistan, countering terrorism and drug trafficking, and developing economic and humanitarian cooperation.
