A man who impersonated a law enforcement officer and committed theft and fraud has been detained in Tajikistan's Khatlon region, the Khatlon Regional Ministry of Internal Affairs press service reported .
The detainee is Yakub Bozorov, a resident of the village of Galaba in the Panj district. According to law enforcement, he went to the home of a woman whose son is in prison and, under the pretext of "helping him get released," received 720 somoni from her.
In addition, on September 8, Bozorov stole a mobile phone from a resident of the same area at the Central Hospital.
Police note that the detainee has three previous convictions for fraud. Criminal cases have been opened against him under Articles 247, Part 1 (fraud) and 244, Part 2 (theft) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Under the first article, the man faces a fine or up to three years in prison. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation and establishing all the circumstances of the crimes committed.
Khatlon Region police once again urged citizens to be vigilant and not to trust individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers without presenting official documents.
