The state program for the development of new irrigated lands and the restoration of abandoned agricultural lands in Tajikistan for 2026–2030 will allow for the development of 11,800 hectares of new land and the return of 16,750 hectares of abandoned land to agricultural use. This was announced at a government meeting on September 29.
The program aims to achieve the goals of the National Development Strategy of Tajikistan until 2030 and the National Water Strategy until 2040. The project's main objective is to expand the area of irrigated land and restore areas previously depleted of agricultural use.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon instructed the relevant government agencies to approve the program and action plan for its implementation. Responsible agencies are also required to submit annual reports to the government on the progress of the work and the results achieved.
The implementation of the program should contribute to increasing agricultural productivity, developing farms and ensuring food security for the country.
