In the city of Penjikent, with support from local authorities and investment from the Zarafshon joint venture, restoration of the canal and irrigation systems in the rural community of Kosatarosh will begin. This was reported by the city administration's press service.
As Mayor Abdukholik Kholikzoda announced during the visit, the project includes the reconstruction of the old 1.5-kilometer-long Chertyuk Canal, the construction of reservoirs, the overhaul of the Dashti Kalon-1 irrigation station, and the installation of a new irrigation station. Once completed, the project is expected to irrigate over 200 hectares of agricultural land.
The Zarafshon joint venture has allocated three million somoni for the project. Fayzi Kuhiston LLC will serve as the contractor.
It is expected that farmers will be able to begin planting crops and planting orchards on the restored lands as early as next spring. The project aims to improve the efficiency of regional agriculture and support local farms.
