In honor of the 34th anniversary of Tajikistan's state independence, an international swimming tournament began at the Dushanbe Tennis Palace and Water Sports Complex, featuring over 60 athletes from six countries. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this.
At the opening ceremony, Tajik Interior Minister and Chairman of the National Swimming Federation, Police Colonel General Ramazon Rahimzoda, congratulated the competition participants and wished success to both domestic athletes and tournament guests.
The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Committee on Youth and Sports under the Government, Zulfikor Gulahmadzoda, the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan, the Rector of the S. Rakhimov Institute of Physical Culture, Muhammadshoh Abdullozoda, and other officials.
It was noted that over the years of independence, the state has taken consistent steps to develop sports and strengthen its material and technical infrastructure, thanks to the initiatives and instructions of President Emomali Rahmon. Particular attention is paid to engaging young people in physical education and swimming, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and training athletes for international competitions.
The tournament is part of the tradition of holding international swimming competitions in Tajikistan in honor of Independence Day.
This year, swimmers from Tajikistan, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan are participating in the competition. The tournament runs until September 3.
