In the Sughd region, criminal investigation officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan have shut down an underground gambling establishment. As a result of the operation, 13 individuals involved in organizing and conducting gambling were detained in the city of Khujand. This was reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the agency, the participants conspired to rent a residential property in Khujand's 34th microdistrict, where they regularly held card games for money. During the operation, police officers caught the players red-handed.
Administrative reports were drawn up against the detainees for gambling under Article 465 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Tajikistan. The materials have been submitted to the court for review and sentencing.
According to the Sughd Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, most of the participants are experienced players who have previously attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies.
"The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds that participation in illegal gambling entails administrative and other penalties. We will continue our systematic efforts to identify and prevent such violations," the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service emphasized.
