On August 14, a ceremony was held in Dushanbe to hand over the latest batch of humanitarian aid from the Russian Federation, intended for the implementation of the WFP School Feeding Program in Tajikistan, reports NIAT Khovar.
A similar event will soon be held in Khujand.
"We are all preparing for September 1st. Our event today is an important contribution to the preparations for the new school year. Feeding children, providing them with healthy meals at school, is a noble cause, the key to successful growth and development. As a friend and partner of Tajikistan, Russia pays special attention to our cooperation in the humanitarian sphere and supports the development of education," noted Vera Khutorskaya, Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy.
The WFP school feeding programme is the largest project in Tajikistan funded by Russia, covering approximately 450,000 students in grades 1-4 in more than 2,000 schools in 53 districts and cities of the country.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Tajikistan Badriddin Muzaffarzoda, Representative and Country Director of the UN WFP in Tajikistan Adham Musallam, as well as staff of the Embassy of the Russian Federation.
