Putin signed a law expanding the list of grounds for revoking Russian citizenship.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law significantly expanding the list of grounds for terminating acquired Russian citizenship, Fergana.ru reports.

Article 24 of the Law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation" introduces over 20 new grounds for revoking Russian passports for emigrants. The list approved by Putin includes various types of crimes covered by the Russian Criminal Code. These include:

▪️ murder;

▪️ indecent acts committed against a person aged 12 to 14 years, as well as against two or more persons;

▪️ involvement in prostitution committed by an organized group or against a minor;

▪️ organizing prostitution with the use or threat of violence, or with the use of minors;

▪️ rape committed by a group of persons, by prior agreement or by an organized group;

▪️ public calls to commit terrorist activities, justification of terrorism or its propaganda;

▪️ unlawful influence on Russia’s critical information infrastructure;

▪️ cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state or international organization;

▪️ assisting the enemy in activities directed against the security of Russia;

▪️ public calls for action against state security;

▪️ repeated propaganda and public display of Nazi paraphernalia or symbols, as well as paraphernalia of extremist organizations;

▪️ Assistance in the implementation of decisions of international organizations in which Russia does not participate, or of foreign government bodies;

▪️ organizing illegal migration;

▪️ any other crime if it is committed for extremist motives or for the purpose of justifying terrorism or sabotage activities.

As State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin noted, the number of grounds for revoking acquired citizenship now exceeds 80, "a fairly extensive toolkit and an opportunity for law enforcement to restore order." The State Duma emphasized that "the law will not affect citizens of the Russian Federation residing in the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, the Kherson and Zaporizhia Oblasts, the Republic of Crimea, and Sevastopol."
