On July 11, after the opening of a number of facilities in the center of Penjikent, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with the city's leaders and activists, the press service of the head of state reported.
Emomali Rahmon thanked the residents of the ancient city of Penjikent for the warm and sincere welcome.
The President of the country noted that in the city of Penjikent, in preparation for the celebration of Independence Day, 47 industrial enterprises, 36 healthcare facilities, 59 educational facilities, 9 cultural institutions, 32 sports grounds, 8 administrative buildings, 21 tourist facilities and hotels, 117 trade and service facilities have already been put into operation, 92 km of roads have been laid, 37 bridges, 14 multi-storey residential buildings and another 321 facilities for various purposes have been built.
Emomali Rahmon, taking the opportunity, expressed gratitude to all the glorious people of Penjikent for their patriotic work in the construction of industrial and social facilities, improvement and creative work.
It was emphasized that since independence, the Government of the country has allocated over 9.3 billion somoni for the development of various sectors of Penjikent, solving the social problems of the population and improving the standard and quality of life of citizens. Only 2.6 billion somoni have been allocated from the state budget for the development of the city.
During the specified period, 26 state investment projects worth over 1.4 billion somoni were implemented within the city limits, and another 6 projects worth over 100 million somoni are currently being implemented.
The head of state recalled that there are currently 52 industrial enterprises operating in the city, which is 7 more than last year.
In order to fully utilize the existing opportunities in the direction of developing the industrial sector, the executive bodies of state power of the Sughd region and the city of Penjikent were instructed, together with the relevant ministries and departments, to take practical measures to develop the industrial sector by attracting direct domestic and foreign investment.
It was noted that thanks to the construction of energy and transport facilities, in particular, the modernization of the 113 km long Ayni-Penjikent highway worth more than 770 million somoni, it was possible to solve two main problems of Penjikent residents: lack of electricity and difficulties in transport communications with the capital and other cities of the country.
In order to achieve the strategic goal of ensuring food security, the head of state considered it necessary to take additional measures with the rational use of water and land, as well as by creating enterprises for processing fruits and vegetables to provide products not only for the domestic market, but also for export.
It was said that despite significant results, there are still a number of unresolved problems in the city's education sector, for the solution of which the city's leaders and officials, as well as the relevant structures and authorities, need to take timely measures.
To correct shortcomings in the healthcare sector, especially the lack of personnel, the head of state gave specific instructions to the relevant structures.
Emomali Rahmon called the ancient city of Penjikent one of the most important areas for tourism development in Tajikistan.
In this regard, it was considered necessary to give priority to strengthening the city's existing capabilities, building tourism infrastructure, training professional guides, developing crafts and improving tourism services.
In conclusion of his speech, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon confidently stated that the glorious residents of Penjikent will continue to unite and contribute to the development and prosperity of our independent country and achieve even greater socio-economic success.
