Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan have stopped the activities of a large underground drug laboratory in the Almaty region, Tengrinews.kz reports.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of a special operation carried out using the controlled delivery method, a criminal chain was tracked from the city of Shu to the suburban area of "Turarskie Dachi" in the Karasai district.
During the operation, two citizens of a neighboring state were detained, who, according to the investigation, organized the production and distribution of synthetic drugs.
"More than 11 kilograms of the synthetic drug mephedrone have been seized from illegal circulation. This has prevented about 35,000 single doses worth a total of $1.6 million from entering the black market," said Daniyar Meirkhan, Acting Chairman of the Committee for Combating Drug Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
During the search of the laboratory, 20 liters and 115 kilograms of psychotropic substances, as well as more than two tons of precursors, were also found. According to law enforcement estimates, another 120 kilograms of synthetic drugs were planned to be produced from this amount.
Thus, the total damage to the shadow drug market is estimated at 17.5 million dollars. The detainees were placed in a temporary detention facility.
