The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan held a kick-off seminar on the development of a Basin Water Resources Management Plan for the Vakhsh River Basin through 2040.
During his speech, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Manuchehr Safarzoda emphasized the strategic importance of developing this document.
According to him, the water resources of the Vakhsh River basin are key to the development of hydropower and agriculture, providing the population with drinking water, and maintaining environmental sustainability.




During the seminar, it was noted that water resources management in the Vakhsh basin should be carried out in a comprehensive manner, taking into account the interconnectedness of efficient water use, energy, food, and environmental security.
Participants also emphasized the need to consider not only the current situation but also long-term changes when developing a plan.
During the discussion, it was noted that priority should be given to solutions aimed at the rational and efficient use of water resources, increasing the efficiency of hydropower and irrigation, strengthening resilience to climate change, and protecting aquatic ecosystems.
