The Sughd Region and China's Shaanxi Province intend to strengthen trade and economic cooperation and increase mutual trade turnover to $1.5 billion by 2026. These issues were discussed at a meeting between Sughd Region Chairman Rajab Akhmadzoda and Shaanxi Province Governor Zhao Gang, according to the Sughd Region Chairman's press service.
A delegation from the Sughd region is visiting Shaanxi Province as part of the implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon, and in accordance with the Agreement on Sister City Relations between the Sughd region and Shaanxi Province.
During the meeting, it was noted that Shaanxi Province is one of China's most dynamically developing regions. It is located in the northwest of the country, and its capital is Xi'an. The region is known as the "cradle of Chinese civilization" and is actively developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajikistan and other Central Asian states.


Shaanxi is a leader in mechanical engineering, electronic microchip production, rare earth metals, and the implementation of modern technologies in agriculture and oil production. Furthermore, a significant number of students from Tajikistan are enrolled in the province's higher education institutions.
According to Rajab Akhmadzoda, trade turnover between Sughd Region and China exceeded $1 billion in 2025. Exports accounted for $505 million of this amount, while imports totaled $564 million.
Positive momentum continues this year. By the end of the first six months of 2026, mutual trade volume had already reached $764 million. Authorities expect trade turnover between Sughd Region and China to increase to $1.5 billion by the end of the year.
