A new railway is planned in the Sughd region, connecting the cities of Istaravshan and Istiklol with the Spitamen district. The project is being implemented with Chinese support, according to the Tajik Ministry of Transport.
According to the department, the project was discussed at a meeting between Sughd Region Chairman Rajabboy Akhmadzoda and a delegation of Chinese specialists led by Chen He, President of the Beijing Institute of Science, Technology and Research.
According to the submitted project, the total length of the new railway line will be 171 kilometers. Experts are currently developing a feasibility study to determine the project's parameters and feasibility.
The Ministry of Transport noted that the construction of the new railway will improve the transport infrastructure of the Sughd region, increase the region's transport connectivity, and expand its logistics capabilities.
The agency also reported that work on the design and construction of new roads, railways, and logistics centers continues in Tajikistan. Designs for 573 kilometers of roads and 71 kilometers of railways are currently under development.
In addition, work is underway with international development partners to attract investment for the construction of 327 kilometers of planned roads, the creation of logistics centers, and the acquisition of machinery and equipment necessary for the maintenance of road infrastructure.
