Strong earthquakes struck Venezuela and Japan almost simultaneously. The most severe consequences were recorded in Venezuela, where a tsunami warning was issued following a series of powerful tremors, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Venezuela was initially struck by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake, followed by a more powerful magnitude 7.5 aftershock. The epicenters were located near the cities of Morón and San Felipe, and the earthquake's source was located at a depth of 13 kilometers.
The earthquake damaged and completely destroyed several buildings. Three people were reported killed, and there are also injuries, though the exact number has not yet been determined. A tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake.
On the same day, tremors of magnitude 6.9 were recorded in northeastern Japan.
The earthquake was also felt in Tokyo. Its center was located at a depth of 50 kilometers.
Japanese authorities did not issue a tsunami warning. There were no reports of damage or casualties.
