A preliminary investigation into the criminal case against S.M. Akhmadov has established evidence of alleged misappropriation of budget funds during his tenure as chief accountant at the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology, and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. This was reported by the press center of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the investigation, Akhmedov S.M., being a financially responsible person, in a prior conspiracy with the Institute's accountant, Ismati F.S., developed a scheme to embezzle budget funds, which included the illegal use of funds intended for paying salaries to employees and covering other expenses of the institution.
As the investigation established, between 2023 and 2025, the said individuals, acting intentionally and with the aim of obtaining illegal benefits, by falsifying accounting documents, on several occasions reflected in the institute’s financial statements expenses for the payment of salaries and other needs in the total amount of 1 million 46 thousand 366 somoni.
According to the case materials, the funds were transferred to the defendants' bank cards, then cashed and embezzled. Investigators believe these actions caused the state substantial material damage.
Based on this fact, a criminal case was opened against Akhmedov S.M. and Ismati F.S. under Article 245, Part 4, Clause “b” and Article 323 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan.
It is reported that the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court for consideration on the merits.
