Tajikistan will conduct its next population and housing census from October 1 to 31, 2030. This large-scale statistical event is mandated by a Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with Article 4 of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the Population Census."
As noted in the document, the census is being conducted to obtain reliable data on the population size and its distribution within the country. The collected information is necessary for the preparation of government forecasts, concepts, strategies, and programs for the republic's socioeconomic development, as well as for the analysis of demographic processes.
A population census is conducted in all countries at least once every ten years or as part of the next World Census Programme. It is one of the most important national measures, allowing for the determination of population size, composition, living conditions, education levels, and employment.
It is noted that the census results are crucial for developing government programs, allocating budget funds, improving living standards, and ensuring the country's continued development. Furthermore, the data obtained contribute to the formation of an objective and comprehensive picture of the socio-demographic situation in the country.
The Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan is responsible for organizing the preparation and conduct of the census, processing the obtained data, summarizing and publishing the results of the population and housing census.
Financing for activities related to the census is provided from the state budget for 2026–2033, as well as other sources of funding.
According to the decree, ministries and departments, as well as local executive bodies of state power, are instructed to provide statistical agencies with comprehensive assistance to ensure the high-quality and timely conduct of the population and housing census.
