During the 64th session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (SB64), held in Bonn, a meeting was held between the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan, Abdullo Kurbonzoda, and the Head of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT), Henning Wooster.
According to the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan, the parties discussed issues of strengthening the transparency of climate policy, improving systems for monitoring, reporting, and verifying climate data, and preparing national reports as part of fulfilling obligations under the Paris Agreement.
During the talks, special attention was paid to developing Tajikistan's capacity to assess climate measures, improving the quality of climate reporting, and using modern tools to track progress in achieving nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
Abdullo Kurbonzoda emphasized the importance of international cooperation in the field of climate transparency and expressed interest in further interaction with ICAT to strengthen national climate monitoring and reporting systems.
For its part, the ICAT leadership confirmed its readiness to continue providing expert and technical support to countries in implementing the requirements of the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to prepare a joint project for the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), which will take place in November 2026 in Antalya.
