The Ukrainian Navy reported that Russian drones attacked the Vanuatu-flagged dry cargo ship ANT, which was en route from a port in the Odessa region to Turkey with cargo on board.
According to the Ukrainian side, the vessel belongs to a Turkish shipowner. A drone struck the superstructure, causing a fire on board.
The Ukrainian Navy noted that thanks to the prompt actions of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service and the naval forces, the fire was quickly contained.
Two crew members were injured in the attack. The victims were evacuated by Ukrainian Navy boats and taken to a medical facility for necessary treatment.
The Ukrainian side stated that such actions pose a threat to international maritime shipping and commercial transport, as civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels are being targeted.
Meanwhile, on the night of May 29, Russian drones attacked the port of Izmail in the Odessa region, according to local authorities. Izmail, located near the border with Romania, is Ukraine's largest port on the Danube and is regularly targeted by attacks.
