On May 8, 2026, a wreath-laying ceremony and commemorative event took place at the memorial to those who died in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, located in the Panjshanbe district of Khujand. This was reported by the press service of the Sughd regional administration.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Sughd Region, Rajab Akhmadzoda, war and labor veterans, representatives of the intelligentsia, labor collectives, teachers and students of higher and secondary vocational educational institutions, as well as students of comprehensive schools.
Participants of the event laid fresh flowers at the memorial to fallen soldiers and honored the memory of the fallen and victims of the Great Patriotic War.






During the ceremony, it was emphasized that, thanks to the ongoing support of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, care for war and labor veterans remains a priority area of state policy.
It was reported that this year, at the initiative of the President of Tajikistan, each participant in the Great Patriotic War was awarded 50,000 somoni as a token of gratitude. These funds were presented to the veterans.


In addition, on behalf of the Chairman of the Sughd Region, participants and disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War were provided with financial assistance in the amount of 25 thousand somoni each.
Residents of the region who worked in the rear during the war were provided with assistance in the amount of 10 thousand somoni.
According to regional authorities, two participants of the Great Patriotic War and 39 people who worked in the rear during the war years currently live in the Sughd region.
