Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated the significant potential for defense cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan, emphasizing its importance for ensuring security and stability in Central Asia, TASS reports.
According to him, cooperation between the two countries is particularly important given the armed conflict in Iran and the escalating tensions in other regions of the world.
The statement was made during talks with Tajik Defense Minister Emomali Sobirzoda. The meeting took place on the sidelines of a meeting of the heads of defense departments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states in the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Belousov noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense is assisting in equipping and developing the Tajik Armed Forces and sharing combat experience. He added that the Russian side is interested in further developing comprehensive cooperation between the two countries' military departments.
In turn, the Minister of Defense of Tajikistan expressed gratitude to the Russian side for its support in strengthening the republic's armed forces, also noting the high potential for bilateral cooperation in the military sphere.
