At the Munich Security Conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for reform of the global governance system, as some countries are re-embracing Cold War-era thinking in lieu of a truly multilateral approach. He said it is necessary to reaffirm commitment to the Charter and mission of the United Nations. The Chinese diplomat emphasized China's commitment to the UN's leading role and crisis resolution: in Ukraine, through a lasting peace agreement, and in the Middle East, by preventing new conflicts over the situation around Iran. On the sidelines of the Munich Conference, Wang Yi also held meetings with the leaders of Serbia, Germany, and the foreign ministers of Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Austria, the Czech Republic, and other countries.
