The Republican Oncology Center performed the first microwave ablation (MWA) surgery to treat liver tumors, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the Ministry of Health, the surgery is performed using the ECO microwave system under ultrasound and CT guidance. Electrodes are placed precisely in the center of the tumor, ensuring safe removal and preventing potential complications.

The ministry noted that the surgery takes only 5-7 minutes. The postoperative period is uneventful, and patients can be discharged 24 hours after the procedure.
"This is a high-tech, minimally invasive method that uses electromagnetic energy to increase tissue temperature and induce tumor cell necrosis. The method is effective for treating tumors of the liver, kidneys, and other organs," the agency emphasized.
Previously, Tajik citizens traveled abroad to carry out such operations.
