On February 18, Sughd Region Chairman Rajab Akhmadzoda made a working visit to the Shakhristan District, where he reviewed the plan for developing rainfed lands and potato farming, according to the regional governor's press service.
The Shakhristan district is one of the region's main potato-growing areas. At the initiative of farmer farms and with the support of local authorities, reclamation work has begun here. According to the plan, approximately 20 farmer farms intend to irrigate up to 500 hectares of rainfed land by drilling wells and planting potatoes.

Shavkat Abdurasulzoda, head of the Shakhristan district's agricultural department, announced plans to drill 20 vertical wells, each of which will provide irrigation water for 20 to 25 hectares of land.
During the conversation with farmers, it was emphasized that increasing potato production is a priority task in order to supply the consumer market, since potatoes are a staple food product.

It is noted that the Gorno-Matchinsky, Devashtichsky and Shakhristansky districts have favorable conditions for the development of potato farming, and the development of new lands can contribute to the creation of new jobs and an increase in agricultural production.
