In order to prevent cases of telephone fraud and protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, the Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has issued an explanation of the methods of action of criminals and precautionary measures.
The agency reported that unknown individuals, posing as bank employees, mobile phone operators, or acquaintances, are demanding, under various pretexts—such as "you owe money to the bank," "borrow money urgently," "your account will be blocked," or "we will set up your phone"—that you provide an SMS code, bank card number, and other confidential information.
Additionally, some scammers call under the pretext of setting up 4G or 5G on your phone and attempt to obtain personal information or a confirmation code. The Communications Service emphasizes that such settings cannot be performed remotely and do not require the disclosure of any secret codes or bank card details.
Having obtained such information, attackers can gain access to citizens' bank cards and mobile wallets and steal funds.
Citizens are advised to trust only official numbers of mobile company service centers:
Tcell — 7070, 8080 and 2000; Babilon-M – 918-61-61-61 and 2006; ZET-Mobile — 800-800-800; MegaFon – 007-700-500 and 970-700-500; MegaFon in Dushanbe – 001-700-500; MegaFon in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region – 004-700-500; MegaFon in Sughd region – 002-700-500; MegaFon in Khatlon region – 003-700-500.
It is noted that mobile companies make calls to their subscribers exclusively from official short numbers or through contact centers.
The Communications Service reminded that mobile companies never request SMS confirmation codes, full bank card numbers, CVV codes, or mobile app passwords. Citizens are advised not to respond to suspicious calls or messages, not to click on suspicious links, including those on Telegram and other messaging apps, not to install unknown apps, and not to share their phones with strangers.
If a call comes from an unknown number and requires confidential information from you, you should immediately end the conversation and contact your mobile phone company or bank directly to verify the information.
The Communications Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is taking the necessary organizational and technical measures to prevent such fraudulent incidents and is strengthening cooperation with mobile phone companies and relevant authorities. Work in this area is ongoing.
The agency emphasizes that citizens' financial security depends primarily on their vigilance and caution.
