Chinese Premier Li Qiang chaired an executive meeting of the State Council on Tuesday, during which instructions were given on government work following the Spring Festival holiday, and draft policy documents were reviewed and approved.
As the meeting participants pointed out, this year marks the beginning of the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), and the departments subordinate to the State Council must facilitate the effective implementation of all decisions and orders of the CPC Central Committee, focusing on achieving the goals and objectives set for the current year.
The need to support regions and businesses in actively seeking and developing new growth opportunities, adopting new targeted policy measures, continuously stimulating market viability, and improving public welfare was noted.
The meeting discussed efforts to develop the "silver economy" (economic activity related to the needs and interests of senior citizens) and elderly care services. Participants emphasized the need to further unlock the consumption potential of older people and create new scenarios and formats for such consumption.
As noted at the meeting, it is necessary to promote the improvement of the quality and expansion of coverage of publicly available care services for older people in order to more effectively ensure that they receive appropriate care.
The meeting participants reviewed and approved a policy document to strengthen fire prevention efforts at the grassroots level, emphasizing the importance of improving grassroots fire safety management mechanisms and raising public awareness of existing risks.
The meeting also discussed and approved in principle the draft amendments to the PRC Law on Water Resources, which it was decided to submit for consideration to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
