The China Media Corporation has prepared a special gala concert for television viewers to celebrate the Lantern Festival, or Yuanxiaojie as they call it in China. This holiday closes the series of events marking the arrival of the Chinese New Year. The live broadcast will begin today at 8:00 PM Beijing time. The program will include songs, dances, Chinese opera, mini-performances, magic, and other acts. The program will also feature integral elements of the Chinese holiday—lighting lanterns, solving riddles, and preparing the traditional dish of yuanxiao (sticky rice balls). In addition to Beijing, the gala will be held at four other venues in the cities of Harbin in the northeast, Yiwu and Hefei in the east, and Yibin in the southwest. (Photo: CMG)
