The "Program for the Development of Preschool Education in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026–2030" was approved at a government meeting on February 27. By the end of the program's implementation, 800 new preschool institutions are planned to be built, and the enrollment rate of children aged three to six years in preschool education should exceed 50 percent. This was reported by NIAT Khovar, citing the press center of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The program was developed to continue the intensive construction of preschool education institutions, create a favorable environment for the learning and upbringing of children, expand access to quality education for the younger generation, and improve the qualifications of industry specialists.
The document aims to strengthen the legal, economic, and organizational framework for ensuring the sustainable development of the preschool education system. The program's implementation is aimed at improving the level and quality of education and upbringing for children.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, to ensure greater accessibility to preschool education, a "Standard Model for Early Childhood Development Center Buildings" has been approved, and a list of equipment required for early childhood development groups has been determined and provided to city and district education departments and offices. It was also noted that the "Early Learning and Education Program" was developed using play-based methods, and a "Methodological Guide for Early Childhood Development Coordination Educational Centers" has been developed and made available for use.
To ensure the early development of children, regulate and coordinate the activities of preschool institutions, early development centers (groups) and other alternative forms of education, the Ministry of Education and Science has established an Advisory Council – a coordinating body for comprehensive preschool education.
To increase the coverage and accessibility of preschool education, 3,154 early childhood development centers have been established at general education institutions, serving 182,744 children. This figure is 270 centers and 51,427 children higher than the same period in 2024.
Overall, preschool education coverage is 310,657 children, or 30.1 percent, which is 65,370 children and 6.9 percent more than in 2024.
In the Address of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon dated December 28, 2024, "On the Main Directions of the Republic's Domestic and Foreign Policy," it was emphasized that over the next five years, using all sources of funding and taking into account the set goal of covering 50 percent of preschool-age children, it is necessary to ensure the construction of 800 preschool education institutions and more than 1,000 general education schools.
