Police officers have solved a number of crimes involving theft and embezzlement, the Tajik Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
A 35-year-old local resident contacted the Kushoniyon District Police Department. She reported that on March 10, 2026, at approximately 12:30 PM, unknown individuals secretly entered her apartment, stole 3,400 somoni, two bank cards, a national passport, and six containers of drinking water, and then fled the scene.
According to the department, the total damage amounted to 3,600 somoni. During the investigation, police officers determined that the crime was committed by a 34-year-old resident of the Kushoniyon district.
In addition, police officers established that on March 10, 2026, at approximately 07:20, a 23-year-old resident of the Yavan district stole 34,790 somoni from a 31-year-old resident of the capital, after which he disappeared.
During the investigative operations, it was also established that on March 4, 2026, at approximately 2:00 AM, two men, ages 27 and 29, residents of Panjakent, one of whom had previously been convicted under Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan, broke into the home of a 48-year-old local woman. They stole a "Dailem-2" bicycle (scooter) worth 5,000 somoni and fled the scene.
An investigation is being conducted into these facts.
In addition, police officers uncovered two cases of theft of funds.
As a result of investigative measures, it was established that a 60-year-old resident of the city of Penjikent, who served as the chairman of a trade cooperative, worked for this organization from February 21, 2023, to July 1, 2024. During his employment, using his official powers, he received 23,990 somoni from the cooperative's shareholders in funds for water supply, pensions, and taxes, but embezzled these funds.
An investigation is also underway into this incident.
In addition, police officers established that a 72-year-old resident of the city of Penjikent, who held the position of head of a trading cooperative in Penjikent, between October 2021 and December 2025, using his official powers, collected land tax arrears in the amount of 124,272 somoni from the cooperative's shareholders and appropriated these funds.
An investigation is underway into this incident.
