Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Beijing with Turkmen leader and Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Both sides expressed their desire to deepen cooperation in energy, trade, and developing sectors.
During a meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that the foundation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Turkmenistan is mutual support. He said both sides should accelerate efforts to align the Belt and Road Initiative with the "Revival of the Great Silk Road" strategy, expand cooperation in the natural gas sector, and improve the scale and quality of trade and investment. The two countries should also expand cooperation in other areas, including communications, agriculture, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and green energy, while also encouraging cultural cooperation projects. Xi Jinping emphasized the need to take decisive measures against the "three evil forces"—terrorism, separatism, and extremism—to strengthen the security foundation for the development of both countries. Noting that global challenges are becoming increasingly complex, the Chinese President stated that China is willing to work with Turkmenistan to firmly uphold the status and authority of the United Nations, practice genuine multilateralism, and promote a global governance framework based on broad consultation, shared contributions, and shared benefits, guided by the principles of fairness, justice, and openness. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that bilateral ties between Turkmenistan and China have become an important positive factor in the economic and social development of both countries and serve the long-term interests of their peoples. Turkmenistan will continue to firmly adhere to the "one China" principle and is ready to strengthen the coordination of development strategies with China, expand practical cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, and communications, and work together to achieve development and prosperity while strengthening security. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to China for its support of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and stated that Turkmenistan is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China within the framework of multilateral structures, such as the UN and the China-Central Asia mechanism, in order to jointly ensure regional and global peace and stability.
