The 2026 Global South Financiers Forum will be held in Beijing on March 25–26 under the theme “Connecting Finance and Wisdom, Illuminating the Global South.”
Xinhua Director-General Fu Hua said at the forum's main session that the agency is committed to strengthening the voice of the Global South and documenting how countries are moving forward together.
He said the agency stands ready to leverage its multi-media outreach system and global presence to foster greater financial cooperation among countries in the Global South and bring more "Global South solutions" to the shape of a new order of global financial governance.
Beijing Deputy Mayor Sun Shuo noted that the financial sector is a pillar of the Chinese capital's economy. He emphasized that Beijing will pursue a policy of high openness and expand opportunities for financial cooperation with countries in the Global South.
According to him, special attention will be paid to improving the business environment, strengthening exchanges in scientific, technical and financial fields, expanding cooperation in the field of green finance, and deepening high-level openness in the financial sector.
People's Bank of China Deputy Governor Lu Lei said the regulator encourages and supports financial institutions to make green and low-carbon investments in countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
He added that the bank stands ready to work with all parties to promote high-quality development of green finance and direct global capital flows to green and low-carbon sectors.
Li Hongyan, Deputy Administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, said the restructuring of the global green industry opens up opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and countries in the Global South.
She noted that through the high-level openness of its financial sector, China is deepening cooperation with countries in the Global South in the green industry, jointly leveraging the opportunities of the green transition, and contributing to global sustainable development.
The event was also attended by Nicaragua's Minister of Development, Industry and Trade, Erwin Ramirez, and the Director General of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mahmudzade.
The two-day forum was organized by Xinhua News Agency.
