US President Donald Trump has decided to distance himself from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid the situation in the Middle East. This was announced by retired US Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, following attempts to escalate the conflict, including strikes on Lebanese territory, Washington made it clear to the Israeli side that such actions must cease. He noted that this demonstrates that the US has moved beyond its previous position on the conflict.
The expert emphasized that Washington's current policy entails a gradual distancing from the Israeli leadership. He believes that if Tel Aviv fails to heed the US position on the situation in Lebanon, the differences could deepen.
He also stated that the actions of the Israeli leadership contributed to the United States' loss of control over the conflict's development. As a result, he said, the US position in the region continues to deteriorate.
Wilkerson noted that despite claims that the situation is under control, the reality remains unstable and risks continue to grow.
It was previously reported that the US and Iran had reached an agreement on a two-week ceasefire, including a halt to hostilities in Lebanon. Against this backdrop, Hezbollah suspended operations against Israel.
