The EU has accepted more than 5,000 Ukrainians for treatment.

European Union countries have treated more than 5,000 Ukrainian patients since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, the European Commission reported.

It is noted that the evacuation of patients is being carried out under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Ukrainians with severe injuries, chronic illnesses, and complex medical conditions are being transported to specialized clinics in European countries for emergency care.

According to the European Commission, 22 EU countries are participating in the program, providing patient admission and treatment. Transportation is coordinated by European agencies.

Medical evacuations are being organized by the European Commission's Emergency Coordination Centre in cooperation with the World Health Organization. The 5,000 patient evacuation milestone was reportedly reached last week.

The most recent evacuation took place on April 15. As part of this operation, patients were sent to medical facilities in Germany, Finland, Norway, and the Netherlands.

EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management Hadja Labib stated that this achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of European countries' joint efforts in providing aid and saving lives. She emphasized that work in this area will continue.

It was previously reported that in Germany alone, since the beginning of the war, approximately 1,700 wounded and sick Ukrainian citizens have received treatment.
