The World Bank Group has approved a Conditional Emergency Response Project (CERP) for Tajikistan, a rapid financing facility designed to help the government respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and crises, the Tajik Ministry of Finance reported.
The project provides for the possibility of reallocating up to 10 percent of uncommitted and unallocated funds from the World Bank's current investment portfolio in Tajikistan during each fiscal year. These resources can be used to cover immediate needs during emergency situations.
Once the government officially declares a state of emergency, the CERP mechanism can be activated. It provides funding for a wide range of vital activities. This includes providing emergency services with essential personal protective equipment, purchasing critical supplies, including food, water, medicine, and agricultural inputs, and providing emergency livelihood support to affected households.
This project is part of the Rapid Response Option (RRO), which allows governments to quickly redirect funds from existing projects to respond to emergencies. The government of Tajikistan has officially accepted this mechanism.
CERP also complements the country's ongoing disaster preparedness and resilience project, the Tajikistan Preparedness and Resilience to Disasters Project (PREPARED).
