The Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) currently has 13 hydroelectric power plants (HPPs), including Pomir-1, Khorog, Namadgut, Tajikistan, Vanj, and Shujand, with a total installed capacity of 54.04 megawatts. There are also seven small HPPs with a capacity of 1.765 megawatts and nine solar power plants with a total capacity of 6.237 megawatts. The total installed capacity of all power plants in the region is 62.05 megawatts, which meets approximately 97 percent of the population's electricity needs, according to the GBAO administration press service.
In particular, the following facilities were commissioned in the region in 2025: the Sebzor hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 11 megawatts, small hydroelectric power stations in the Darvaz and Rushan districts with a total capacity of 325 kilowatts, 7 solar power stations in the villages of the Murghab district with a total capacity of 5,337 kilowatts, and 1 solar power station in the Ishkashim district with a capacity of 100 kilowatts.
These measures contributed to a significant increase in the volume of electricity generated in the region and ensured a reliable power supply to the population.
