A crime committed by an organized crime group 25 years ago has been solved in the capital of Tajikistan. The case involved the kidnapping of 16-year-old Manuchehr Sharipov, the son of then-Deputy Prosecutor of the Transport Prosecutor's Office of Tajikistan, Khaknazar Sharipov. This was reported by the Dushanbe Department of Internal Affairs.
According to investigators, on the morning of January 21, 2000, unknown individuals abducted a teenager near School No. 55 in Dushanbe. The investigation established that the crime was committed for personal reasons and to obtain a large ransom, as directed by Khudoynazar Odinaev, the leader of an organized crime group. Abdulhak Samadov, Rivojiddin Odinaev, and other residents of Vahdat also participated in the crime.
The kidnapped Manuchehr was held for 65 days under armed guard in the village of Tangai Vakhdat. The criminals demanded a ransom of $50,000 from his parents for his release, which was paid. After the ransom was received, the teenager was released.
A criminal case has been opened against members of the criminal group under Part 2 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan (kidnapping). It is noted that the leader of the organized crime group, Khudoynazar Odinaev, was killed in 2013 while resisting law enforcement officers after committing another crime.
Abdulhak Samadov, one of the group's members, was arrested and taken into custody. The remaining members are wanted. Details about how investigators tracked down the perpetrators and when Samadov was detained have not been released.
The solution to this crime, a quarter of a century later, was made possible by the systematic work of investigative agencies and law enforcement agencies in Dushanbe. This event underscores the importance of continued efforts to identify and punish those who commit serious crimes, regardless of the statute of limitations.
