Dushanbe police have charged renowned singer Firuza Khafizova with disrespecting the national currency and violating Article 18 of the law on the regulation of traditions.
A video of Firuza Khafizova being given money as a compliment at a Moscow restaurant has gone viral. Police investigated and determined that the incident occurred at the Millennium restaurant on December 20.
"On December 20, Sadriddin Nabiyev, a representative of the Millennium restaurant, invited Firuza Khafizova to perform at the establishment. During the performance, Saididdin Sainuruddin and Sabohat Islamova, deliberately violating the law and showing disrespect for the national currency, threw various banknotes onto Khafizova's head as she sang. The singer herself also showed disrespect for the national currency by continuing to sing atop the scattered bills," according to a video report from the Dushanbe Department of Internal Affairs.
In the video, Saididdin Sainuruddin, Sabohat Islamova, and Firuza Khafizova acknowledged their mistake and expressed regret. Police did not specify the specific penalties imposed on those involved in the incident, stating only that "the necessary materials have been prepared for this incident and sent to the competent authorities for action."
