On December 8, 2025, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Eduardus Stiprais, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretariat in Beijing. This was reported by the SCO press service.
The European Union representative praised the SCO's efforts to develop multifaceted cooperation and spoke about his institution's interactions with countries in the region as part of the implementation of the new EU strategy. He emphasized the EU member states' commitment to providing comprehensive support to the Central Asian states' efforts to create conditions for good-neighborliness and mutual support.


In turn, the SCO Secretary-General spoke about the organization's activities, noting that the Tianjin Declaration of the Council of Heads of State reaffirms the significant role of Central Asia as the SCO's core. He emphasized that the organization supports the efforts of member countries, including Central Asian states, aimed at ensuring peace, security, and stability, as well as developing trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation both within countries and in the region as a whole.
At the request of Eduardus Stiprais, Nurlan Yermekbayev provided information on the main results of the Tianjin Summit and the ongoing work to improve the structure and activities of the SCO.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to maintain regular working contacts between the executive bodies of the SCO and the European Union.
