During the 10th Meeting of Agriculture Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held on July 30 in Kunming, China, Tajikistan's Minister of Agriculture Kurbon Hakimzoda held meetings with Iran's Minister of Agricultural Jihad Nuri Ghulamrizo and China's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Zhang Zhili, the country's Ministry of Agriculture's press service reported.
During the meeting with the Iranian Minister of Agricultural Jihad, issues of food security, expanding the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the relevant departments of the two countries, increasing agricultural trade, supporting and stimulating the business community of both countries, climate change, rational use of water and land resources, and organic production were discussed.
It is noted that the parties paid special attention to the creation of a system for storing, processing, packaging, and exporting agricultural products, and the development of quality infrastructure, that is, the creation of laboratories for assessing the quality of water, soil, and final products with international accreditation.
At the meeting with Chinese colleagues, issues were discussed such as strengthening cooperation within the Central Asia-China mechanism, increasing agricultural trade, intensifying the work of the Subcommittee on Agriculture between Tajikistan and China, attracting Chinese companies to invest in the country's agriculture, enhancing scientific cooperation between the parties, the practical application of scientific developments in production, cooperation in cotton growing, breeding and seed production, the introduction of innovative methods for growing agricultural crops, and protecting plants from diseases and pests.
The parties agreed to establish a joint working group within the Subcommittee on Agriculture and to hold its meeting.
The Chinese side expressed interest in importing lemons, cherries, grapes, and dried mulberries to the Chinese market, as well as in exporting processed products to Tajikistan.
The development of digitalization in the industry, organic production, the creation of laboratories for soil analysis and product quality, the use of water-saving technologies, and an increase in the number of grants for Tajik students to study at agricultural universities in China were also deemed expedient.
