On July 30-31, 2025, the Regional Conference "Strengthening National and International Partnerships to Combat Trafficking in Persons" was held in Dushanbe. It was organized by the Interdepartmental Commission to Combat Trafficking in Persons in the Republic of Tajikistan jointly with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
The conference was organized as part of efforts to develop a regional response and cooperation to combat human trafficking and to hold an annual meeting on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, in line with the call to action of the Bukhara Declaration on Strengthening Partnership against Trafficking in Persons. The goal of the conference is to strengthen regional and international cooperation in Central Asia, promote collaboration between criminal justice agencies and civil society, and share best practices and develop practical recommendations for strengthening responses to human trafficking crimes.
The event was attended by officials, coordinators for the implementation of the Bukhara Declaration, representatives of civil society from Central Asian countries, and representatives of international organizations and donor agencies. Participants shared national experiences in this area, identified current threats, and developed significant recommendations, including those aimed at enhancing the potential for interethnic investigative cooperation.
