On August 6 and 7, 2025, in accordance with the Work Plan of the Council of Border Troops Commanders, a joint exercise of units (groups) included in the List of Formations for Inclusion in the Group of Border and Other Agencies of CIS Member States, codenamed "Kanjar-2025," was held at the Koktal Armed Forces training ground in the area of responsibility of the Border Directorate for the Panfilov District of the Border Service Department of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Zhetysu Region. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
This time, border guards from the Commonwealth states trained in organizing and conducting a joint border operation to search for and eliminate sabotage and reconnaissance groups and illegal armed groups during a period of escalating military and political tensions.
The event was attended by representatives of the border agencies of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as the Coordination Service of the SKPV.
The objectives of the joint exercise were achieved. During the event, interaction and command and control between the group's formations during a joint border operation were practiced, and practice was gained in the management of forces and assets, as well as the joint work of the command staff and officials of the command bodies within the group's joint headquarters in organizing and conducting practical exercises.
A general analysis of the results of the exercise demonstrated the advisability of advance planning of joint actions in the most threatened areas of the external borders of the CIS member states.
The event marked another step in preparing for a crisis response and demonstrated a shared understanding of the goals and objectives of reliably protecting the external borders of the Commonwealth states.
