On August 13, 2025, a working meeting of the heads of tax (financial) investigation agencies and experts from the Coordinating Council of Heads of Tax (Financial) Investigation Agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Astana, Kazakhstan. CIS Deputy Secretary-General Nurlan Seitimov participated in the event, according to the press service of the Organization's Executive Committee.
Addressing the meeting participants, he noted that since its founding, the Commonwealth of Independent States has been working steadily and consistently to strengthen stability and security, as well as counter new threats and challenges. Sectoral cooperation bodies play a key role in this effort.
"Your Council is entrusted with the extremely important task of ensuring the economic security of the Commonwealth states. We see that, overall, the Council is functioning dynamically and responding promptly to violations in the financial sector," Nurlan Seitimov emphasized.
He particularly noted the fact that the Council's work allows not only to objectively assess the evolving operational situation in the economic sphere, but also to improve the legal framework for cooperation.
In this regard, Nurlan Seitimov expressed support for the efforts of the CSONR to implement the main CIS international treaties in the area of economic security. This primarily applies to the Agreement on Cooperation between CIS Member States in Combating Tax Crimes of June 3, 2005, the draft of which was developed by the CSONR.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the Council members for their effective participation in the implementation of targeted interstate programs to strengthen economic security. We are pleased to note that the Council is continually taking steps to improve the quality of professional training and the activities of core organizations for the benefit of financial investigation agencies," the CIS Deputy Secretary-General concluded.
