An international tourism forum entitled "Badakhshan – the Golden Gate of Tajikistan" was held in the Darvaz district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), according to the Tajik National News Agency "Khovar."
The forum took place on August 15 and brought together representatives of government agencies, tourism companies, international partners, and local entrepreneurs. Before the event, guests were treated to an exhibition of regional folk crafts at the ZEV.S tourist complex. It featured kashida (chain stitch embroidery), traditional sewing, ceramics, blacksmithing, national cuisine, and reconstructed household objects—residential buildings, a watermill, a windmill, and an oil mill.
Speaking at the forum, Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Dilrabo Mansuri emphasized that, thanks to the initiatives and support of President Emomali Rahmon, the country's tourism industry has received significant development impetus in recent years.
"In a short period of time, hundreds of new tourist facilities have been commissioned. Today, there are more than 356 tourism entities and approximately 200 travel companies operating in the republic. The Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region is firmly established as one of the region's leading tourist destinations," Mansuri noted.
According to her, further development of the industry in the region requires the active creation of tourism infrastructure and investment incentives.
Jamshed Jumakhonzoda, Chairman of the Tourism Development Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, and other forum participants discussed expanding international cooperation, creating new tourist routes, and exchanging experiences with foreign partners. Particular attention was paid to investment opportunities and mechanisms for attracting private business to the tourism sector.
The forum's organizers expressed confidence that such events contribute to the promotion of Tajikistan's tourism brand internationally and the strengthening of cultural ties with other countries.
