Despite US President Vladimir Putin's statements about his readiness to make peace in Ukraine, immediately following the Trump-Zelensky-EU summit in Washington on Monday, the Russian military launched a series of strikes on Ukrainian regions. By Tuesday afternoon, at least two people were reported killed and eight wounded as a result of Russian shelling in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Chernihiv regions.
On the night of August 19, the Russian Armed Forces carried out combined strikes on the Bogodukhiv, Kupyansk, and Lozovsky districts of the Kharkiv region and the outskirts of the regional capital, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported. Three people were injured in the village of Russkaya Lozovaya after aerial bombs were dropped. In the village of Pobeda, a Russian drone strike on the roof of a private home caused a fire, injuring four people, including children aged 3 and 8, the service reported.
In Dobropillia, Donetsk Oblast, one local resident was killed and another was injured in a Russian airstrike on a residential area. According to the State Emergency Service, at least six apartment buildings were damaged. "During emergency rescue operations, emergency workers evacuated one person from the destroyed apartment building. Rescuers pulled a man from the blocked apartment, who, unfortunately, died in the ambulance," the rescuers reported.
The State Emergency Service also clarified that a 45-year-old man died in a Russian Armed Forces drone strike on a "civilian infrastructure facility" in the Nizhyn district of the Chernihiv region. A fire broke out at the site of the attack. According to Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Special Operations Department, some settlements in the region experienced power outages following the attack.
Furthermore, the Russian army struck the Poltava region overnight, where debris from downed drones damaged "administrative buildings of local energy sector enterprises," stated Volodymyr Kogut, head of the regional military administration (OVA). According to him, 1,471 households and 119 organizations were left without power in the Lubensky district as a result of the attack. No one was injured.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of an oil refinery in Kremenchuk, which, according to the ministry, supplied fuel to Ukrainian troops in Donbas.
