Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses have entered into force in Tajikistan, introducing penalties for citizens who seek the services of fortune tellers, magicians, and sorcerers. This was reported by the Dushanbe Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to Amendment 1 to Article 482 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Tajikistan, which entered into force on July 31, 2025, using the services of individuals engaged in fortune-telling and witchcraft is punishable by a fine. The fine ranges from 50 to 60 times the calculated rate, equivalent to 3,750 to 4,500 somoni.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that this measure is aimed at eradicating negative phenomena associated with the spread of superstitions and fraud under the guise of occult services. The agency urged citizens to refrain from consulting fortune tellers and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in combating such practices.
"We strongly warn all residents of the capital and the country's regions against participating in such illegal activities. Accountability will be met in strict accordance with the law," the Dushanbe Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized.
