During his working visit, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon visited the construction sites of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), where he inspected the progress of work at the exit of the T-91 transport tunnel, the Obi Shur River protective dam, construction site No. 5A, and the fourth-level construction tunnel. This was reported by the presidential press service.
Transport tunnel T-91
The T-91 transport tunnel, located at an altitude of over 1,300 meters above sea level, is one of the most important facilities at the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station. Work has been completed to reinforce the outlet sections, install drainage pipes, and construct lighting and ventilation systems. According to engineers, tens of kilometers of mountain tunnels have already been built in full compliance with international standards.
The President emphasized the need for increased quality control over the work and noted that the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station is a symbol of the country's future prosperity.
Obi Shur Dam
The head of state also inspected the condition of the protective dam on the Ob-Shur River, which prevents the threat of floods and mudflows. The structure was built from 2010 to 2015 and reached a height of 1,115 meters. In 2025, the dam was raised another 20 meters to 1,135 meters above sea level. The total volume of concrete placed was over 284,000 cubic meters.
The dam performs a key function: it prevents rocks, sand, and silt from entering the station's drainage tunnels, ensuring the facility's uninterrupted operation.
Construction site No. 5A
At site No. 5A, the President inspected the preparation and welding process for the water intake pipelines of units No. 3 and No. 4. The work is being carried out by domestic enterprises: Nurek Experimental Mechanical Plant CJSC and Tajikhydromontazh OJSC.
To date, nearly 2,000 tons of cast iron pipes have been prepared for Unit No. 3, over 140 tons of which have already been assembled. Over 1,800 tons of welding work has been completed for Unit No. 4, over 550 tons of which have already been installed.
Workers use modern, next-generation welding equipment, and quality is checked using ultrasonic testing.
Fourth-level construction tunnel
The final stage of the working visit was a visit to the fourth-level construction tunnel, which serves as a drainage channel for excess water during flood periods. It is 1.7 km long, 15 meters in diameter, and has a capacity of 3,500 cubic meters per second.
More than 80% of the concrete work at the site has already been completed, and equipment installation and reinforcement of the outlet sections are ongoing. Construction is being carried out by Tajikhydroelectromontazh OJSC.
Emomali Rahmon noted that the Rogun hydroelectric power station plays a key role in achieving Tajikistan's energy independence and developing green energy.
The president was accompanied on his trip by Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, as well as heads of relevant ministries and departments.
