The 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a resolution, "Cooperation between the UN and the CIS." The draft document was submitted by Tajikistan, which holds the rotating chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2025. This was reported by the press service of the Department for Cooperation in the Political, Humanitarian, and Social Spheres of the CIS Executive Committee.
The adopted resolution notes the CIS's active efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in various areas, including trade and economic development, the exchange of statistical data and economic information, culture, education, healthcare, sports, tourism, science and innovation, environmental protection, and the fight against natural and man-made disasters. Attention is also paid to combating organized crime, the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, terrorist and extremist activity, illegal migration, and other related issues.
The document emphasizes that strengthening cooperation between the UN and the CIS promotes the goals and principles of the United Nations, as well as deepens cooperation with UN agencies, programs, and funds. Specialized agencies and international financial institutions are encouraged to develop joint work with Commonwealth states.
The adoption of the resolution demonstrates that the CIS continues to be a reliable partner of the UN in ensuring international peace and security, promoting sustainable socio-economic development and protecting human rights.
