The Hydrometeorology Agency under the Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan (Tajikhydromet) warned of possible mudflows in several regions of the country at the end of August. This was reported by the agency's press service.
According to experts, from August 29 to 31, due to rising air temperatures, glacial mudflows are possible in the western regions of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, the mountainous regions of the Sughd Region, and in the mountainous regions of the republican subordination.
Tajik Hydrometeorological Center recommends that residents and visitors to the country take precautions, refrain from traveling to potentially dangerous mountainous areas, and heed emergency service warnings.
The agency emphasized that the main reason for the likely mudflows is the intense melting of glaciers and snow amid abnormally high air temperatures.
