Tajik President Emomali Rahmon signed a decree retiring military personnel who have completed their mandatory terms of service and re-conscripting citizens born between 1998 and 2007 for compulsory military service. This was reported by the presidential press service.
According to the document, in October–November 2025, service members of the Armed Forces, the Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security, the National Guard, the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Civil Defense Troops of the Emergency Situations Committee, the escort brigade of the Main Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Punishments of the Ministry of Justice, and the agricultural battalion of the Agency for the Provision of Special Property under the Government of the country will be discharged into the reserves.
The decree provides for the conscription of male citizens aged 18 to 27 years who are not entitled to a deferment or exemption from service into the ranks of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.
The Ministry of Defense, in conjunction with the chairmen of regional and capital city draft commissions, has been tasked with recruiting for the National Guard, border troops, and special forces through a rigorous selection process and prioritized staffing.
Local authorities, together with military commissariats, must ensure the organized conduct of the campaign in accordance with the Law on Military Duty and Military Service.
Furthermore, the decree notes the need for active informational support for the draft. The Ministry of Culture, the Committee for Youth and Sports, and the Committee on Television and Radio are instructed to widely cover the process and promote military service as "the sacred duty of every citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan."
To conduct medical examinations of conscripts, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population must mobilize experienced doctors and specialists.
The decree was signed by the President in Dushanbe on August 29, 2025, and comes into force upon publication.
